Parks Programming Returns to Broadway Armory Park in Time for Summer; Capital Improvements in the Works

Chicago Park District staff are back in the Broadway Armory Park working on facility improvements in preparation for summer 2024 programming. The Parks team is implementing a capital improvement plan that was in place before part of the Armory transitioned into a shelter. The plan includes painting, varnishing/waxing the floor, and indoor tuckpointing to address leaks. The work will not impact operations at the Edgewater Satellite Senior Center, which continues to be open. The hours are 8:30am-4:30pm; lunch is served at 11:30am.

Park District programming will return to Broadway Armory Park on June 10th. Registration is now open for Summer Camp, the Gymnastics Center, and other summer parks programming at the Armory. To register, visit chicagoparkdistrict.com.

The Fitness Center and Teen Center will reopen on June 10th. We are working with the Teen Engagement Unit on reactivating the Teen Center with new programming such as pop-up events and Inferno, a mobile sound and media arts program. Due to the capital improvement work and the indoor scaffolding required, it will not be possible to open the Teen Center, Fitness Center, or gym before June 10th. If you would like a refund or a rollover of your Fitness Center membership, please contact Mike Floyd at michael.floyd@chicagoparkdistrict.com

Edgewater Village will regain use of their office space at the Armory as soon as possible, by June 10th at the latest.

Jackalope Theatre will return to their home at the Armory in Summer 2024. The Park District and Jackalope Theatre are in conversations about offering new programming at the Armory that would include acting and script writing. This spring, Jackalope Theatre offers the world premiere of The Singularity Play at The Berger Park Cultural Center Coach House Theater at 6205 N Sheridan.

Looking ahead to Fall 2024, the Armory will welcome new and returning partners/vendors including a new volleyball and women’s basketball program with Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association (CMSA).

The Chicago Park District will be hosting a re-opening event in June with details coming soon.
